While there are many public Rideshares around the world 3 come to mind for me.

Taxis and Buses, Uber and Lyft Rideshare. While taxis and buses have been popular in the past and readily available, I’ve found Uber and Lyft is more available, definitely safer and affordable. While you have to be careful with any public rideshare, you can be assured that a driver with Lyft and Uber has gone through thorough background checks before they are allowed to start working.

Lyft has recently changed their policies to allow for frequent background checks on their drivers. This means you can be assured there is a continuous check to assure even recent incidents are reviewed by Lyft and Uber.

Of course there is always a small 1% chance something slips through the cracks and this is where the rider’s awareness and preparedness comes into play. Always have a backup plan when you get in someone’s vehicle. First, confirm the tag number and picture of driver to ensure you are entering the correct vehicle. Second, always sit in the rear so you can exit quickly and safely if necessary. When at all possible allow family members or loved ones to know where you are going or simply track your movements. You can turn on TRACKING on your rider side of the Uber and Lyft APP. Always have something to protect yourself with such as mace.
